Adventures Beyond Foxtail Green

The next set of Wolsey’s Adventures chronicles Wolsey’s holiday in Normandy, France. The book differs from the first collection not only because it takes Wolsey out of England, but also because it functions as a novella, with a continuous plotline rather than the episodic structure of Tails from Foxtail Green.

Like the first book, I wrote A Holiday in France over 15 years ago. It was (very loosely) inspired by a short trip to France with a small group to visit our newlywed friends who had recently purchased a château to renovate. The real Wolsey was not part of that trip, as he was no longer with us by that point, but his spirit of adventure lingered as I explored the château, imagining its shadowed corridors and hidden corners from a dog’s perspective.

That trip introduced me to the idea that Wolsey could wander outside of Foxtail Green and find adventure in any setting. I have the freedom to expand Wolsey’s world beyond the gentle countryside of Suffolk to pastures and cities anew. But Winter Whispers remains Wolsey’s home. He’s a Suffolk lad at heart and will always return there.

Incidentally, my visit to France all those years ago took place in a pre-Brexit world, where pet passports were commonplace and travelling with your furry companion was, arguably, less cumbersome than it is today. But Wolsey’s world inhabits a timeline that doesn’t precisely correlate with the real world today… or perhaps with the real world at all.

Wolsey’s Adventures: A Holiday in France, published by Foxtail Green Press, will be available later this month. Keep an eye out for further details.
